The Outset Is Winding Down—What This Means If You Use the Brand

September 29, 2026 · 12:58 p.m. ET

The Outset, the skincare brand co-founded by Scarlett Johansson, says it is winding down operations. Online shopping on the brand’s website has ended, although existing orders will continue to be processed.[1]

If The Outset is part of your routine, the immediate question is simple: will you still be able to buy the products you use?

What changed

The Outset’s website now says the company has decided to wind down operations. If you already placed an order, the brand says it will still be processed, and customers with order questions are being directed to support.[1]

The company has not publicly given a reason for the closure, and this is not being described as a recall or product-safety action.

You may still find products at retailers

The Outset’s store list still names retailers including Amazon, Credo, Cult Beauty, goop, Nordstrom, QVC, Revolve, and Shopbop.[2]

Beauty Independent also reported the closure on September 29 and noted that products were still available through several third-party retailers.[3]

That does not mean those products will keep being restocked. During a wind-down, inventory can disappear at different times from different stores.

Do you need to stock up?

Probably not on everything.

If you have one Outset product you genuinely rely on, it can make sense to keep a backup while you look for a replacement. But start by identifying what that product actually does for your routine.

If it is your cleanser, look for another cleanser that suits the same skin needs. If it is your moisturizer, focus on the texture, hydration level, and formula features that matter to you. You do not need an exact ingredient-for-ingredient copy to replace the job a product was doing.

If you buy remaining inventory

Use established retailers, check who the seller is, and pay attention to the return policy, packaging condition, and product freshness.

The Outset says orders placed on its own site on or after August 14, 2026 are final sale.[4]

What this means for you

You do not need to panic-buy because the brand is closing.

If an Outset product is a true staple for you, buy only what you are comfortable using within a reasonable timeframe and start identifying a replacement now. For most products, matching the function, finish, and fit for your routine is more useful than chasing an exact dupe.

BB will update this story if The Outset provides new information about remaining inventory, customer support, or product availability.
